Halloween Craftiness: Spooky Spicy Stout Soda

Craft beers have an incredible range of flavors. Some of the fall seasonal brews are so inspiring that you want to jump in and start crafting yourself. Before building your own brewery, get creative with your Bonne O! Today we're going to pair the fall flavors of cinnamon and all-spice with silky, earthy stout.

The building block is Beer Syrup.  It is easy to make and allows a lot of creative flexibility. In this case we poured a tall (16oz) can of stout (Guinness in this case), 1/2 cup of sugar, three cinnamon sticks and a small handful of all-spice into a saucepan. We stirred and brought it to a low boil on med-high. Then we turned it down to low-med for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.

When the syrup has reduced down to about 1/3rd of its original volume, remove from heat and pour into a resealable container. The Beer Syrup will keep for up to 3 weeks in the refrigerator. Keep in mind that this syrup can retain up to 35% of its alcohol by volume.

To create your Spooky Spicy Stout Soda fill the flavor chamber with beer syrup and place a carbonator in the carbonation chamber. Fill the bottle with a couple ice cube and top up with cold water to the rim.

Close up the appliance and press the button. Watch as the beer syrup enters the bottom of the bottle. When all the syrup has exited the flavor into the bottle, the pure CO2 from the activated carbonator enters the bottle. The Spooky Spicy Stout Soda is mixed and sparkled before your eyes.

When it is completed, the pour is distinctly beer with a full head of foam. This is a rich cinnamon, all spice stout beverage. While the core taste is distinctly stout, it is rich, spicy and sweeter. Calling it a Spooky Spicy Stout Soda fits it perfectly. This is a great addition to a Halloween party. Optionally, add a bit of whiskey to the bottle before sparkling for some extra smooth scariness. Boo!
