It's the season to give your immune system a boost. Let's boost with real, natural ingredients. Follow these instructions to use real ginger, lemons and lime to create a Lemon & Lime Infused Ginger Ale.
First, create a natural Ginger Syrup using real ginger. This simple method only takes 20 minutes, lasts for weeks in the fridge and is full of antioxidants. Take one ginger root (for a sharp ginger bite, use a big root - to keep it subtle, use a small one) and grate the root into shreds using a cheese grater. Put the ginger shreds, 1.5 cups of water and one cup of sugar or one cup of honey in a pot. Bring to a boil and then simmer for 15 minutes. Strain & pour the resulting syrup into a jar. It will keep in the fridge for weeks. Alternatively, you can any commercially prepared naturally sweetened ginger syrup in your Bonne O.
Now to create your drink. Fill the flavour chamber with your new ginger syrup and place a carbonator in the carbonation chamber. Place a few lime and lemon segments in the bottle and top the bottle up with cold water. Close up your Bonne O and press the button to sparkle it! Here are a couple of variations of this recipe to consider. For an even bigger immunity boost, try adding a green tea bag (and use all lemons and no limes) to the bottle before carbonating for a Ginger Green Tea Infused with Lemons. To test the medicinal effects of an adult beverage, try adding a bit of rye whiskey to the bottle for a Rye & Ginger Infused with Lemons & Lime. Open both these versions slowly by pushing the top bottle valve a couple times before opening and allowing the bubbles to dissipate between presses. With alcohol or a tea bag in the bottle, more bubbles are formed so open slowly using this technique. Enjoy!
